Nepal's legendary Gurkhas are renowned for being the world’s fiercest warriors.


Their traditional motto is: "It's better to die than be a coward."


The selection process is brutal.

HISTORY OF GURKHAS ↓

The British Army has enlisted a brigade of Gurkhas for more than 200 years.

They have served in conflicts across the globe, from the two World Wars to the Falklands, Bosnia, Sierra Leone, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Known for their fearlessness, their name derives from the Nepalese hill town of Gorkha.




You are competing for a spot in the elite squad.


To qualify, you must pass a series of gruelling physical tests.


Major Sandy Nightingale will be watching you.

“Every test, every point, every second counts, so you must focus.”

First up, it’s a 2km sprint

Next, the heaves competition

Complete at least 8 pull-ups on the bar



Now, the lift and carry

“Lift it up! Lift it up!”

The jerry can race

Pick up two 20-litre jerry cans filled with water and run 240 metres.



Finally, the doko race

The toughest challenge!


Strap a bamboo basket filled with 15kgs of sand on your back. Now sprint 5.8kms up a steep Himalayan mountain at sunrise.
